A Little About Me

Hi, I'm Emily!

I'm the founder of KindMind Pediatric Evaluations, a Licensed Psychological Associate, and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst with years of experience in clinical psychology, child development, psychological assessment, and behavioral health.

I hold two master's degrees: a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Western Carolina University and a Master of Arts in Infant and Early Childhood Development with an Emphasis in Mental Health and Neurodiversity from Fielding Graduate University. I'm also continuing my doctoral studies in Infant and Early Childhood Development at Fielding.

Throughout my career, I've worked with children, adolescents, and families navigating autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, emotional and behavioral concerns, and complex developmental needs. My experience includes psychological evaluations, applied behavior analysis, crisis intervention, caregiver support, clinical leadership, and professional supervision.

My background in psychology and behavior analysis, along with specialized education in early childhood development, mental health, and neurodiversity, has shaped how I approach my work. I don't believe we can fully understand a child by looking at one test score, one behavior, or one diagnosis. There is always a bigger picture.

Why I Started KindMind

I started KindMind because I wanted to create a place where families could get answers while also feeling heard, understood, and supported throughout the process.

I've worked with so many families who have spent months, sometimes years, trying to figure out why their child is struggling. Some have been told to wait and see, others have received conflicting information, and many simply don't know where to start.

I wanted KindMind to be different.

I wanted families to feel comfortable asking questions, sharing concerns, and being honest about what life looks like at home. I wanted evaluations to be thorough and individualized, but also approachable and meaningful. To me, a psychological evaluation should never be about simply checking boxes or assigning a diagnosis. It's about understanding the whole child: their strengths, challenges, developmental history, relationships, environment, and what makes them unique. And most importantly, it's about helping families understand what to do with that information.

My Approach to Psychological Evaluations

One of the things I value most about my work is being able to look at children through several different lenses. My clinical psychology training gives me a foundation in psychological assessment, cognitive functioning, emotional health, and diagnostic understanding. My background in behavior analysis helps me understand how behavior relates to communication, learning, motivation, and the environment. My education in infant and early childhood development, mental health, and neurodiversity adds another important perspective on development, relationships, and individual differences. I believe these areas are deeply connected, and understanding how they fit together leads to more meaningful evaluations.

I also believe that behavior is communication, children deserve to be understood rather than simply managed, and families should always have a voice in decisions about their child's care.

My approach is compassionate, collaborative, developmentally informed, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I value neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed care, and I recognize that every child and family brings their own experiences, priorities, and needs to the table. I want families to leave an evaluation with more than a diagnosis or a lengthy report. I want them to better understand their child, recognize their strengths, and leave with realistic recommendations they can use in everyday life.

Beyond Psychological Evaluations

As my career has grown, so has my vision for KindMind.

While comprehensive psychological evaluations remain at the heart of the practice, KindMind has expanded to include parent coaching, behavioral consultation, educational resources, and professional development opportunities. I've also served in clinical leadership roles, supervised and mentored behavior analysts, and supported professionals navigating the challenges of providing thoughtful, ethical, and individualized care.

I'm especially passionate about helping newer BCBAs build confidence in their clinical decision-making. Through mentorship, consultation, and professional education, I hope to help clinicians develop skills that go beyond simply following a treatment protocol. I am also an approved BACB Continuing Education (ACE) Provider, and I'm excited to continue developing educational opportunities that encourage meaningful clinical growth, critical thinking, and compassionate practice. Whether I'm helping a family understand their child's evaluation results or supporting another professional through a challenging clinical situation, my goal is always the same: to help people feel more informed, capable, and supported.

Outside of KindMind

When I'm not working, I'm a mom to two kids who keep life fun, busy, and never boring!

I love spending time with my family, traveling, heading to the beach whenever I get the chance, baking, decorating, and finding new creative projects to work on. Being a mom is a huge part of who I am, and it has absolutely shaped how I work with families. I understand that parents know their children in ways that no assessment can fully capture, and I believe their perspectives deserve to be heard and respected.

I also know parenting doesn't come with a manual, and sometimes families just need someone to listen, help them make sense of what they're experiencing, and work alongside them to find a path forward.

That's what I hope KindMind can be for the families we serve.

My Commitment to Families

At the end of the day, KindMind was built around a pretty simple belief: every child deserves to be understood, and every family deserves to feel supported.

I want families to know that when they come to KindMind, their concerns matter, their child's individuality matters, and we'll take the time to look at the whole picture.

Because an evaluation shouldn't just provide answers. It should help families understand those answers and feel more confident about what comes next.
