The Psychological Evaluation Process: Step-by-Step

 1. Initial Inquiry 

Contact us to express interest in an evaluation via call, text, or email. 

2. Consultation & Scheduling

We’ll schedule an initial consultation (in person or virtual) to review concerns, explain the evaluation process, and determine which assessments are appropriate. This is also a great time for you to ask questions and feel comfortable with the process.

3. Intake & Record Review

You'll complete intake forms that include background information, developmental history, and areas of concern. This helps us understand your child’s unique needs before we begin. With your permission, we’ll review relevant documents such as school records, previous evaluations, IEPs, medical reports, and behavior data. This helps us get a full picture of your child’s strengths and challenges.

4. Parent/Caregiver Interview

We’ll meet with you to gather detailed information about your child’s behavior, development, social history, and functioning at home and school. Your insights are essential to understanding the full picture.

5. Direct Testing

Your child will complete a series of standardized assessments tailored to their age and needs. These may measure areas such as cognitive abilities, academic skills, language, memory, social-emotional functioning, attention, or behavior. Sessions are child-friendly, play-based when appropriate, and may occur over one or more days.

6. Teacher or Provider Input.

With consent, we may send brief questionnaires to teachers, therapists, or caregivers to gain additional perspectives on your child’s behavior in different settings.

7. Scoring & Interpretation

All assessment data are carefully scored, analyzed, and interpreted using research-based methods. We look for patterns and connections across different areas of functioning.

8. Comprehensive Report

You’ll receive a detailed, written report that summarizes all findings. This includes diagnostic impressions (if applicable), your child’s strengths and needs, and personalized recommendations for home, school, and therapy supports.

9. Feedback Meeting

We’ll meet with you to go over the results, answer your questions, and make sure you feel confident and supported in the next steps. This meeting is collaborative and family-focused.

10. Ongoing Support

We’re here for you! Whether you need help implementing recommendations, navigating the school system, or finding the right resources, we offer continued guidance and care.
